Ahmet ertegun (1923-2006: founder of atlantic records. Arif mardin (1932-2006: assistant to ahmet, producer. Jerry wexler (1917-2008: coin the term rhythm and blues. Tom dowd (1925-2002: popularized the 8-track recorder in recording studio, in 1957, he convinced jerry wexler to put an 8 track in the atlantic records studio, figured out that he could put different instruments on different tracks. The modern style of recording: he put the famous echo chamber in atlantic record studios, coined the echo chamber in post. The modern mix down: he came up with the linear fader on the modern console. Important early atlantic recordings: ray charles - what"d i say (1959) Had an electric piano: the coasters - charlie brown (1959) Very clear bass and drum song: ben e. king - stand by me (1961) More rhythm clarity up front in your face : phil spector - wall of sound . Apprenticed under leiber and stoller: learned everything under leiber and stoller.
