Low self-monitors tend to be straight shooters and behave in line with their beliefs, while high self-monitors tend to be social chameleons. Self-monitoring: extent to which people"s behavior reflects their true feelings or attitudes. Recognition heuristic: we are more likely to believe something we"ve heard many times. This heuristic often leads us to correct info, but not always. Example: spaghetti brand study (weaver, 2007) found hearing one person express an opinion ten times is as convincing as hearing ten people express it once.
