Individual differences in nonverbal cues: general level of expressiveness- how expressive you are as a person, affective communication test (act) measures general level of expressiveness, affect= mood or emotion. Successful professionals score high on the act: role of gender: traditional gender roles- Females are superior to males in the social use of cues. Females are more effective at both reading and transmitting unspoken messages. Socialization plays a powerful component in this difference: we talk less to boys and encourage them to be more active, we talk more to girls and encourage them to be more passive. Social cognition: the cognitive processes people use to interpret, analyze and remember social information. Locus of control: julian roter- locus is a beginning point, origin. The starting point of the control you have over your life. Internal locus of control (i loc)- individual assumes personal responsibility for life events.
