Document Summary

Subjectivism is when facts depend on subjective beliefs. Individual subjectivists would say you should make decisions based off your individual preferences. According to subjectivism, it depends on the subjective beliefs of the individual. However, relativism is when facts depend on the beliefs of the society as a whole. In the murder example, if the majority of society deems murder as an acceptable act, the murder is ok. However, if the society does not deem murder an acceptable act then it is not ok. The divergent values theory is the belief that cultures have a right to believe in different values. Therefore, according to the divergent values theory, it is neither right nor wrong to eat the dead because cultures have differing values. Huemer believes that individuals subscribe to the divergent values theory are subjectivists. However, subjectivism is false which makes the divergent values theory false.
