2 components of skeletal tissue: bone hard, calcified matrix and is a calcium reservoir, cartilage provides flexibly. Bones: tissue types found in bones, epithelial tissue and nerves. Epithelial tissue in blood vessels: connective tissue. Bone ct as hard, calcified matrix for bone storage. Periosteum membrane: function, support framework and support for soft tissues, movement works with muscular system, protection protects organs, mineral reservoir calcium and phosphates stored in matrix of bone, hemopoiesis red bone marrow produces new red blood cells, bone classification by shape. Flat, irregular and short bones spongy bone sandwiched between two layers of compact bone. Calcification zone matrix becomes calcifies, cartilage cells die, matrix begins deteriorating. Ossification zone new bone formation is occurring osteogenic zone. When done growing, it becomes the epiphyseal line ossified growth plate: periosteum. Surrounds outside of bone except where there is articular cartilage. Portion in contact with compact bone is osteogenic: osteoblasts and osteoclasts actively remodel the bone.
