Evolution is the biological response to life with time to natural selection. Just like cars and airplanes, you are not going to start off with a fighter jet. Once you have life, you start having natural selection. The origin of life, is the origin of evolution. Can thrive in a wide variety of environmental conditions. Can thrive only in a narrow range of environment conditions. The first few minutes of the universe are termed the era of nucleosynthesis. This was the interval of time when the first elements (hydrogen, helium) were formed. Some li and be were also formed, but quickly destroyed. There was a time earlier than this when the universe was so hot and dense that we enter a realm in which our fundamental understanding of the physical universe and its laws breaks down. Physical experience and theoretical extrapolations are incomplete for this earliest time. This is a topic of much research at the moment.
