COMM 110 Lecture Notes - Lecture 7: Kinesics, Eye Contact, Nonverbal Communication
Document Summary
What you do speaks so loudly that i cannot hear what you say . Primary way we communicate our feelings and attitudes (leaking) Signs that enhance what we are trying to communicate. We put more weight on the nonverbal communication. E. g. crush: smiling at them, sit near them, eye contact, talk to them, hair flipping, jokes and physical contact. People always searching to see if you are listening. Adapt our actions to be more appealing to whoever we are communicating with. More likely to make prolonged direct eye contact. Tend to require more space around them. Use their voices to communicate a greater range of emotions (vocal variety) No eye contact: weird, shy, lying, lack of confidence, afraid. Be mindful of how people interpret your face. Vocal cues = vocal quality (~vocal variety) Rate: fast/slow - pay attention to fast. Force: loudly/softly - pay attention to loud. Pitch: high/low - women high pitch when excited.
