Us refused to accept that the sino-soviet grouping was defensive saw it as aggressive so heightened assistance to south-east asia extending containment to cover south-east asia. Us looked at east asian affairs through cold war prism concern about china becoming communist, concern about fragile state of capitalist world economy.
