Acceptance and commitment therapy: believes most useful goal of treatment is for patient to accept their streams of problematic thoughts rather than judge them, act on them, or try to change them. Deinstitutionalization: exodus of hundreds of thousands of patients from institutions into community. Key features of effective community care programs. Community mental health center: treatment facility that would supply medication, psychotherapy, and inpatient emergency care to people with severe disturbances, as well as coordinate the services offered by other community agencies. Aftercare: general term for follow up care and treatment in the community. Partial hospitalization: sometimes people needs fall between hospitalization and outpatient therapy. Day centers or day hospitals: all day programs in which patients return to their homes for the night. Halfway houses (aka crisis houses or group houses); residence for those with mental disorders. Sheltered workshop: supervised workplace for employees who are not ready for competitive or complicated jobs.
