Intoxication (especially in older adults of prescribed medication) Happens because as we get older our metabolism slows down, so metabolism of medicine or alcohol goes much slower and it stays in the system longer) About 10-15% of adults will become delirious after surgery. In cases such as surgery: usually goes away by itself within a few weeks. Other possible symptoms (need one of four) Agnosia: can"t recognize familiar objects (visual perception) Gradual onset (discriminating factor between dementia and delirium)
