Norman triplett is credited with having published the first research article in social psychology at the end of the nineteenth century (1897-1898). Max ringelmann conducted research in 1880s and published in 1913 studying th effects of the presence of others on the performance of individuals. In contrast to triplett, ringelmann noted that individuals often perform worse on simple tasks like pulling a rope than when performed with other people. Despite both their research, neither established social psychology as a distinct field of study. The creation of it as a distinct field goes to william mcdougall (1908), edward ross (1908), and. Allport"s book in particular focused on the interaction of individuals and their social context and its emphasizes on the use of experimentation and scientific methods, which helped established social psychology today. These 3 men announced the arrival of a new approach to the social aspects of social behavior, which meant social psychology was born.
