Document Summary

Religious fundamentalism is defined as a belief in the absolute and literal truth of one"s religious beliefs. People who are high in fundamentalism are convinced that their religion is the right one and that forces of evil are constantly threatening to undermine its truth. The greater the fundamentalism, the greater the hostility. Not true for those who have a flexible, open, and questioning orientation to to religion (known as religious quest) Individuals who are high in sdo believe that groups of people are inherently unequal and that it is acceptable for some groups in society to benefit more than others. They prefer to be in the advantaged group, even if it means treating other groups badly. Students who are high in sdo prefer jokes directed at low-status out-groups. Leaders who are high in sdo are more likely to make unethical decisions. Law students score higher on sdo (and prejudice) than do psych students.
