Evidence: participants were shown a photograph of a skinhead - some were instructed to write a paragraph a day in the life of using stereotypes, the others were asked not to use stereotypes. Found: those told not to - sat further away from the skinheads supposed seat. Making a conscious effort to avoid being influenced by stereotypic views (negative stereotypical views learned vs non prejudiced views held) Withholding honest opinions in an education setting -children can"t learn and improve. Intentionally correcting our judgements takes time & mental resources. Evidence: mental imagery - intentionally exposing oneself to counter-stereotypic information = iat - reduced strength of stereotype. Evidence: just say no to stereotype pairings - experiment showed it reduced implicit stereotypes. Finding a special circumstance to explain behaviour, don"t accept that the behaviour is a reflection of the individuals true nature. Creating subtypes - social categories that are narrower can place exceptions in separate groups to ensure the stereotype stays the same.
