Assess the historical trajectory of specific ideas/debates and views in reporting. How accountability of the powerful (government, business) is possible. How citizens make informed decisions and participate in public life. How inclusive and diverse is the public debate over key issues in society. There"s no such a thing as absolute reedom of expression (or the press) Maintain freedom, make social order workable, ensure equal participation, protect social mores, etc. How the press regulates entry of issues and viewpoints into public debate.
