Outline is like a blueprint you wouldn"t build a house without one. Make a skeleton outline: beginning, middle, end, introduces the complication with an anecdote, end resolves the complication, middle connects the dots. Make a bullet point list of everything you want to say in the story. Story pitch: pitch a story idea verbally in class march 25. It can be inverted pyramid or wsj. At least two sources must be interviews. A subjective statement is any opinion or inference that can be reasonably disputed: ex: he looks old and tired. An objective fact is a statement that no reasonable observer would deny: ex: he has gray hair and walks with a cane. Three ways to avoid biased observations: use active verbs describe what people do, don"t generalize, don"t describe things just for the sake of observing them. The bulwer-lytton contest: recognizes the worst fiction writing of the year: sponsored since 1982 by the english department (of some university)
