Meaning is clear, interposing such terms into speech can simultaneously reveal who you are and add vivid imagery to your speech: use language accurately. Build trust and credibility = language must be accurate (correct in usage and truthful expression) Malapropism- inadvertent use of a word or phrase in place of one that sound like it. Fail to choose words that are both denotatively and connotatively appropriate for the audience. Connotative meaning- special association that different people bring to bear on it. Called slender but not skinny, thrifty but not cheap: choose words that convey confidence and conviction. Trust in listeners= express yourself with confidence and conviction. Passive voice- subject is acted upon or the receiver of the action. Shouw audience that you accept them as well. Hedges- unnecessary words and phrases that qualify or introduce doubt into statements that should be straightforward. Tag questions- unnecessary questions that are appended to statements or commands.
