BIOL 030 Lecture Notes - Lecture 2: Homeostasis, Organism, Synovial Fluid
Document Summary
Human anatomy is the study of body structure. Word is derived from the greek and means to cut or cutting backwards. Structure and function of the body are closely related. Structure mirrors functions: bones of the skull are heavy and secure to protect brain function, thin air sacs of the lungs permit movement of gases from the lungs to the blood. Start with learning the most basic level of organization: atoms, molecules (inorganic/organic, cell, basic structural and functional unit of life, tissue, groups of cells that work together to perform a similar function, 4 types of tissues. Nerves: organ, structures composed of two or more different types of tissues. Have specific functions and recognizable shapes: organ system, body made of 11 systems. Consists of related organs with a common function: organism, consists of collection of organ systems. In health all parts of the body must be functioning together in a process called homeostasis.
