This is an ethnography of travesty sex workers in salvador, 3rd largest city. He saw how travesti live, work and play. Travestis have a lot of agency and can impact structures of power in gender and sexuality. They have almost no power in any other parts of life. There is no motivation for anyone to make their living conditions better. Slum lords don"t take care of their houses. They are marginalized because of their gender subversions, race, and class. Most of these travestis were poor, dark, and are the lowest of the low according to the established people of brazil. Some travestis go to europe to do work and then come back and then some just move to. Global influences have tried to increase lgbt tolerance in the country. Medical care is a constitutional right and sex change operations financed by public health systems. Christian organizations have an effort to lift the ban on gay conversion therapy.
