Evolutionary psychology says innate differences between men and women. Harris as a cultural materialist looks at the external instead of the internal. Ex: men better at math and more aggressive. A practice will continue if it provides benefits of survival for the group as a whole. Ex: penis at 12 boys (dominican republic) Because of a genetic mutation, the boys have the outward appearance of girls until the age of 12 when their penis emerges. They are treated as girls until the age of 12, which arguably proves that gender roles are learned not innate (harris/cultural materialism) Evolutionary psychologists argue that their gender changes because of a big dose of testosterone. Cultural materialist: females are socially discouraged from. Actually: women do better in school in math, but men do doing well in math; it is learned as a gender role better on standardized tests, although, in higher level classes men excel.
