Document Summary

Coefficient of static friction on a ramp (inclined plane) lab. The purpose of this lab is to determine the coefficient of static friction of a metal weight sliding down a ramp or inclined plane, and then justify whether mass affects the coefficient of static friction. Two different metal weights of different masses (. 2 kg and . 5 kg) were slid down a ramp at different angles, and finally at the same angle. Adjustable ramp or inclined plane (with angle measurements) Observations when the weights of different masses were slid down at different angles, the calculated coefficients of static friction were different. However, when the weights of different masses were slid down at the same angle, the calculated coefficients of static friction were the same. One possible source of error may be physical variations in the experiment. It is always wise to obtain multiple measurements over the entire range being investigated. Doing so often reveals variations that might otherwise go undetected.
