Document Summary

In lemert"s social theory, i concur with lemert on his ideas of how society is organized into various orders, or a manifold gradation of social rank (lemert 2013). Social stratification is prevalent across history, especially within the society of india. A caste system, a social class that an individual is placed in involuntarily, explains why some societies offer little social mobility. For example, for one that is placed in a lower caste, it is almost impossible for them to ascend the caste system into a higher caste. It is highly difficult to change one"s status or rank within a caste system. When looking at the caste system, one can notice certain patterns. In lower castes, individuals are more associated with unclean, manual labor, while higher castes are associated with clean, mental labor. There is manual labor such as farming or agricultural labor, and mental labor such as lawyers or scientists.
