Poop is mostly bacteria: makes up the majority of the weight of poop. Prions: not alive, but proteins that can destroy our bodies if we consume them. Thinking about food already activates mechanisms in your gi tract. Seeing things that are related to food will also elicit responses in gi tract. All called food primes : primes the body so that it will be ready to handle the food. Signals that gets your body to anticipate food. The entire process is called the cephalic phase of digestion. Nursing bottle syndrome: milk contains sugar, and bacteria love sugar. Bacteria can multiply on the tip of the milk bottle if it"s left inside the baby"s mouth, and can break down teeth. The acids produced by the bacteria will break off the calcium in the teeth. Prior to 1886: tooth decay was very rare. Prior to this, sweets were only eaten during meals.
