Document Summary

Items in the same dimension should have the most in common. These items would be more highly correlated with each other as opposed to items in other dimensions. Helpful when our main goal is to predict a certain criterion. But not necessarily when our main goal is accurate measurement. Choose the item that predict the criterion best. Item may seem to have nothing to do with one another, or with the test"s purpose. Just because an item is correlated with something doesn"t mean it"s a valid prediction for it. On a test of agreeableness, the item "i am easygoing" on a likert scale of 1-5 receives a mean score of 4. 1. Looking at items within the test without reference to any other items, scales, measures, etc. Reliability is a type of internal structure information. But reliability makes the most sense when you know which items make up the final scale. We will cover this in the next unit.
