Psychopharmacology - study of drug effects on mind and behaviour. To judge effectiveness of a new treatment we need to know. A lot of studies on new drugs compare it to a placebo. Neither the person administering nor the person receiving know what they are getting. Reduce the symptoms of certain disorders such as schizophrenia. Pros: in some case patients can lead a normal life. Important to think about that they can be addictive. Also prescribed for depression and possibly ocd and ptsd. Manipulate what is going on with neurotransmitters. Takes about 4 weeks for someone to feel the effect. Appear to be more effective in people with more sever cases. Seems to help level the extremes that are associated with bipolar disorder. Someone who has been thrpugh psychological therapy and drug therapy and has shown no improvement. Has been effective for patients not responding to drug therapy. An implant in your brain that sends out electrical impulses.
