Many children, grandparents etc. , responsible for own food and clothing, teaching and prayer in their homes, made own housing and furniture. Population growth and bigger cities, suburban shift and communities created, gold standard and stereotypical family in 50s-60s, immediate family 2 parents 2 kids. Single parents, having children older, adopted, lgbtq families, etc. 90s economical need for family members to support and live with immediate family. Increasing diversity in us that value extended family network. Recessions, range of impacts on citizens, some families are still recovering, typically the top 5% make 12x more than the bottom 5% Living wage : money to live and cushion. Minimum wage : creates poverty line, only looks at food budget and other minor things.
