Document Summary

Not always ideal- depending on what you are looking for the ideals could be different. Depends on discipline and the horses use. To accurately assess a horse"s conformation, you must be familiar with its anatomy. Size of the head proportional to size of the body. Overly wide forehead and deep eye socket decrease degree of binocular. The eyes are all really the same size whether they stick out more or are closer to the head. Width between the jaws= more space in the throat. Parrot (top lip hangs over the bottom) versus monkey mouth( top lip is shorter than bottom lip) Narrow jaw= narrow throatlatch= more susceptible to respiratory problems. Should be long and slender with a slightly arched topline, fine throatlatch and straight underline. Length is determined by the length of 7 cervical vertebrae. Ample length provides maneuverability, balance and good carriage. Horse with thick throatlatch that tucks its head will limit the supply of vitals.
