Geoffrey chaucer - greatest english poet of the middle ages first flowering of english poetry written in middle english. He was famous for having written the canterbury tales. The canterbury tales amongst the first books printed in england, tells tales of the medieval society and about social standings. Edward i. had expelled all the jews, antisemitism continued on. 1476: william caxton set up the first printing press near westminster in britain. As a result, more people had access to literature, eventually leading to the rise of english literature. Henry iv. was the first lancaster king (see last lecture). His son, king henry v. reunited the country, resumed the war with france revived the hundred year"s war. The famous battle of agincourt took place in 1415 in north-eastern france. Henry led to the end of the age of knights in warfare (! ); at last, however, after the introduction of fire arms.
