Marvin gaye opened door for stevie wonder in the beginning of the seventies. Originated from jamaica which had the idea of the rude boy /outlaws in music. Rastafarianism religion present; stresses unity, smoking weed to get closer to jah. 1950s: dance parties became popular, dj would spin american r&b/doo wop records on their sound systems. Mid 1960s: rock steady emerges, expanded on ska music. Late 1960s: reggae emerges as an offspring of rock steady music. Black sabbath: template for hard rock music.
