Socialization the process in which an individual becomes a part of a society by learning the culture, norms, rules, etc. of that society. Socialization is only half of what shapes a person other half has to do with biology. Theories of socialization and the development of the self. Looking-glass self created by charles horton cooley who believed that people create a self by looking at themselves through the perspective of others your self is what you think other people see you as. Agents of socialization groups or people that socialize us by teaching us our culture. Family first major agent of socialization: identity comes from race, class, parenting styles, etc, first place where you are taught your culture. School: hidden curriculum lessons that you learn aside from the basic education, ex: sharing, interacting with peers, gender rules, etc.
