Viability- does it measure what it is supposed to. Developed in france- commissioned someone to make a test which would tell which class to put children in. Came up with mental age- mental performance of a typical child at a certain age. Intelligence quotient (iq) = mental age/chronological age x 100. Mental age 5; chronological age 4- higher iq. Roughly 70% of the people have an iq between 85 and 115. Standard deviations- a number by itself is meaningless without comparing it to what it should be. Depends on how much the slope deviates around the mean. Not as broad as originally thought- different kinds of smart . Not as predictive for how much money people will make. Reaction range- the genetically determined limits of iq. Reaction range- the genetically determined limits of iq: one person is born between 80 and 100, someone else might have a range from 95 to 120.
