NUTR-2160 Lecture 14: Evidence and Evidence

27 views2 pages

Document Summary

Research systematic search for knowledge, to establish novel facts, solve new or existing problems, prove new ideas, or develop new theories. Two types of research include basic research, which explains the world around us to understand how the universe operates, and applied research, which solves problems primarily in a field setting. Nutritional science determines requirements for energy and nutrients and extent to which demand has been met. Nutritional research draws on many disciplines to understand how energy and nutrients become available to the cells of the body to enable function. Research evidence facts that support or dispute a scientific theory or hypothesis. Methodology vs. methods: methodology study of how research is conducted, how we find out things and how knowledge is gained, methods tools, techniques, or processes we use in our research, such as surveys and interviews. This can include invasive approaches: experimentation describes how the research itself will be conducted, protocol written description of a study.
