HLTH-2980 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Atrial Fibrillation, Heart Failure, Atrioventricular Node
Document Summary
Cardiac electrical conduction system: sa node- want contraction of heart to start, ad node- when atria contract, conduction goes down septum of the heart, to bundle branches and then to purckingie fibers, when atria contract, the ventricles contract. Cardiac electrical conduction chart: p wave- atria contract, should be a positive inflection (above baseline) If longer than expected- could have av block (problem with conduction of sa node or av node), problem with communication of av node. Arrhythmias are commonly seen in those with: heart attack, heart failure or cardiomyopathy, leaky valves, congenital heart defects (muscle tissue and nervous tissue are not developed can cause problems or if they are deformed) Risk factors for arryhthmias: high blood pressure. Ideal: less than 100 mg/dl: triglyceride, less than 150, blood pressure, systolic/diastolic, avg 120/80. Only need to meet one of the criteria to have prehypertension: cant rely on just one blood pressure taken to be diagnosed with hypertension.
