It is during this time that they contemplate accomplishments and are able to develop integrity if they see themselves as leading a successful life. It is a challenge to maintain the belief that life is meaningful and worthwhile in the face of physical decline and the inevitability of death: despair. If people see their lives as unproductive, feel guilt about the pasts, or feel they did not accomplish their life goals, they become dissatisfied with life and develop despair. Activity theory: activity theory: older adults are better adjusted when they"re more active and involved in physical and social activities, physical activity is associated with a lower mortality rate in late adulthood; Leisure and informal social activities contribute to life satisfaction among retired people. Independence dependence: older people who are independent think of themselves as leading a normal life .
