Document Summary
Watch selected segments from video below and answer the questions while watching the video: http://www. learner. org/resources/series78. html. Watch video 19: running water i: rivers, erosion and deposition (stop at minute 16) The three things that all streams do are erode, transport, and deposit sediment. One important factor of how rivers shape the land is the velocity of its water. Slope, and channel shape, texture (roughness) muds and clays will make the river flow a little faster. The amount of water in a river channel increases so will the velocity. The quantity of water in a river is called its discharge, or how much water the river is carrying. The three different erosional processes are hydraulic action (the turbulence of a rapidly flowing streams), abrasion (energy of moving water is converted into collision between sedimentary grain and the bedrock in the bottom, dissolution (dissolve rocks or minerals) The factors that affect sediment transport are shape, size, and composition.
