Geography is unique because it emphasizes spatial patterns and relationships. Latitude and longitude (0-90 n/s, 0-180 e/w) A two-dimensional graphical representation of the surface of the earth. Mathematically impossible to make a 2-d object from a 3-d object without distortions. Standard line is the line which wraps around the projection perfectly. Conformal projection: projection which has the correct shape. Equal area: has relationships of all parts are maintained, property of equivalence. No map can be both conformal & equal area. Greenland is 0. 8 million sq miles while africa is 11. 6 sq miles. In conformal projections greenland looks much larger than africa when in fact it is 14x smaller. The increasing interconnectedness of people and places throughout the world converging economic political and cultural change. Can be considered as a compression of time and space. Positive effect could be like in saudi arabia where there was pressure to allow women to drive.
