The book of proverbs gives basic principles for living, aimed at young men. Job and ecclesiastes deal with more difficult theological and philosophical problems. Definition of ot wisdom: wisdom is basically the very practical art of being prudent, sensible, and skillfully insightful so that one might prosper and have good success in life (hill and walton). The importance of the fear of the lord (proverbs 2:5-6) Wisdom literature is clustered around the davidic king. Wisdom finds its ultimate expression and fulfillment in jesus christ (1 cor. Definition: if a person is righteous, he will prosper; if a person is wicked, he will suffer (hill and walton). A principle, not always observable (luke 13:1-5) Bad things do happen to god"s people; perseverance is key (rom. The principle will stand in the final judgment. The book of proverbs is not just good moral teaching; it is integrally related to the fear of yahweh, the one true god and israel"s covenant lord (1:7)
