Document Summary

Weight: weight is changed with gravity, mass is not. Wight is the force resulting from earth"s gravitational attraction. Mass doesn"t change depending on elevation (or planet) whereas weight does. (f=ma) (force=mass times acceleration. ) Weight is a force; mass is a measurement of matter. Measure force on some mass and get a force. Mass is independent of gravity, weight is not. Mass-how much matter is contained in something. A way of measuring how much matter is contained. Matter exists in three states, solid, liquid, and gas. Liquid- has definite volume but no specific shape, assumes shape of container. (fluid) Gas- has no fixed volume or shape, takes on the shape and volume of its container. (fluid) Property- characteristics or attribute that can be measure or observed. Physical- sample does not change into new substance. Chemical properties- can only be measured if one or more new substances are formed.
