Document Summary

The empire wanted a closed economic system (mercantilism) within the colonies. A series of laws designed to regulate trade. Certain products could not be sent to any other country. Trade had to be carried on british ships with an english crew. Colonists broke these laws, but did not disagree with parliaments" right to pass them. What they did disagree with, were laws that raised revenue. British parliament avoided strict enforcement of laws so colonists would remain loyal. All began in europe and eventually spread to the colonists. French & indian war *key turning point in american revolution* They also relied heavily on their native american allies. Britain sent over their military (redcoats) to fight. They were a professional, well trained army but drank, swore heavily, and enjoyed prostitutes. This embarrassed the puritan colonists and they started to lose their respect for the british and their army. Colonists were going to help the french fight the british.
