Individuals constantly in conflict with one another and with society. Ignored questions concerning life"s meaning and the effects of future aspirations on life. These questions a central part of his theory. So future looking vs influenced by the past. Freud saw the mind as consisting of different components often in conflict with another. Viewed the mind as an integrated whole working to help attain the future goals of the person. Focused on the idea that individuals are unique. Similarities to a number of other personality theories. Characterized by inner harmony and a striving to cooperate with fellow humans. Driven by common innate instincts, drives, needs. Humans have tamed their instincts to subordinate them to their social relationships. All vulnerable to physical disease that then cause problems because of stress in the environment.
