The church decided that religious imagery should be used to cultivate piety. The inquisition was in charge of determining if the piece of art was heretic. Among the most notable criticisms was that against the last judgement by michelangelo. Andrea gilio criticized that the painting focused too much on twisted forms rather than religious reflection. Michelangelo consented to covering up some of the figures. Veronese"s feast in the house of simon levi (oil) of the italian late renaissance is a depiction of the last supper that includes many other figures. In response to the inquisition, the artist changed the name of the painting to the feast in the house of simon levi. The church opposed the inclusion of figures that obscured the meaning of religious works. Caravaggio"s supper at emaus (oil) of the italian baroque shows the story when christ returned to share another last supper with some of his apostles, unaware initially of who he is.
