The platform above the arches depicts biblical scenes, such as the nativity. Mary is reclined as jesus is being bathed, indicating. The background depicts gabriel informing mary about the coming of her son. Damage exists on the panel, such as the head of christ which is missing. The panel recalls ancient relief sculpture elements from sarcophagi. The figures are crammed one on top of another, as it depicts multiple biblical scenes at once. Pisano"s fortitude column has many classical greek themes and uses a contrapposto pose (appears to be ready to move via shifted weight on one leg). The baptistery of san giovanni uses rounded arches, and its interior contains a massive golden mosaic. Mosaics and icons like these were influenced by byzantine style art due to interactions via the crusades.
