SAR SH 522 Lecture Notes - Lecture 16: Crista Galli, Cribriform Plate, Lacrimal Bone
Document Summary
Crista galli protrudes into the cranial space. Perpendicular plate projects down to form the nasal septum. Middle and superior nasal conchae are lateral to this plate. Cribriform plate lateral to the perpendicular plates. Orbita plates articulate with the frontal bone, lacrimal bone and maxilla to form the medial orbit. They form part of the orbital space along with frontal bone, lacrimal bone and maxilla. Volmer articulates with the inferior portion of the ethmoid. Has a corpus (body) and 3 pairs of processes: Greater wings makes up a portion of the orbit and articulates with the frontal and temporal bones. Lesser wings partially cover the optic canal. Pterygoid process point of attachment for muscles. Has numerous foramina through which nerves and blood vessels pass. Corpus contains the hypophyseal fossa, which holds the pituitary gland. Overlie the parietal lobes of the cerebrum. Joined by the sagittal suture (midline suture) which runs from the frontal bone to the occipital bone.
