Has been a crusading journalist in the manner of jacob riis. Has always written about those who don"t have systematic advantages. Raab gives hersh a run for the money in terms of tenacity. Reported the career girl murder, where they arrested george whitmore in custody until he confessed. Raab was doing a series on police brutality and how police coerce confessions so he thought that whetmore might be a good case, and then instead decided to focus his entire study on whitmore. Story took him nine years but there were 3 major charges against whetmore. Whitmore was released after 9 years in prison. Raab wrote a book about the case, justice in the back room. A good little girl raab"s benediction on the death of a 12-year old prostitute. Woodward was assigned to the write about the break in to the watergate hotel, seen as just a regular police story.
