A way of thinking about race which has a notion that there are races and it defines race in terms of skin color, blood, heredity, in terms of biology. Sociology of race is not about the two things above because it is too individualistic, broadly speaking it is about two other things that are interrelated to each other and distinct from the other two. Not about the racism of individuals, but maybe how societies are stratified along racial lines, how groups are impacted upon the perceived race, broader social level dynamics of race, and then the consequences of race. Race = a group of people who share a set of characteristics, usually physical ones, and are said to share a common bloodline, conley p 326. Race is whatever the people in society define race is. Views how societies have thought about defined race because it is socially constructed.
