CAS PY 105 Lecture Notes - Lecture 8: Projectile Motion

61 views2 pages

Document Summary

Py105-lecture 08-independence of x and y; projectile motion. If two balls are dropped at the same time, at different initial velocities and different trajectories, they will reach the ground at the same time. They have the same acceleration due to gravity. Initial velocity and trajectory does not matter. A ball dropped straight down will hit the ground at the same time as a ball thrown with projectile motion(second set of dots on graph), because gravity is acting on both of them in the same way. If a cart is going at a constant velocity and a ball is thrown up into the air at an angle perpendicular to the track, the ball will land in the moving cart. Same initial velocity for the ball and the cart. If ball was thrown up perpendicular to ground, then results would be different. Ball still has same x-component, but a y-component is added.
