Gender differences: men are more likely to die of suicide. Men usually commit suicide by jumping off a roof, or by gunshot. Women usually try to ingest as many pills, and they have a larger chance of being saved. Old white men have the greatest risk of taking their lives. Women are more likely to convey their suicidal thoughts. If we read about some elderly man with terminal illness who kills himself: understandable. But if you think about a 17 year old girl who takes her life > much more traumatic. Adolescent suicide: often there are less clear-cut reasons to commit suicide. Sometimes, it is very dif cult why did the teen commit suicide. Some people think that this has to do with the concept of permanent death: adolescents do not really see this (cognitive development), while old people are closer to this notion.
