Sources of data about personality vary whether they are fixed or flexible. Everyone has the exact same measure and the results are calculated in the exact same way: ex: rating 1-5 then score calculating through mean averages. Giving people options in answering in different ways: ex: rate the importance of how much you like your big butt. Advantages: produces qualitative data, better at understanding exactly how someone feels. Disadvantages : coding one"s response in words could be difficult. There are only clues, and clues are ambiguous (pg57) Funder"s fourth law: there are only 2 types of data, terrible data and no data. Data is imperfect and ambiguous, we must be critical and constructive when looking at data. Be aware of the need for both: reliability: Test retest reliability: internal inconsistency: all of the different items are related to one another, the extent of the items being related to one another.
