Traits are both inherited and learned; we can develop certain traits when interacting in our environment. Ask people and that information will be useful in order to understand people: allport"s structure of personality. They occur in combinations, each persons combo makes them unique. Central traits: traits that drive most behaviors, qualities that direct your behavior and actions (5-10: ex: shy trait- wouldn"t go to a party. Secondary traits/dispositions: characteristics that weren"t directing your behavior all the time, but in certain situations would manifest, not the most important traits: ex: overall you are extroverted, but in class you have stage-fright.
