Child realizes there are many possible outcomes for a problem. Understands how many factors can influence an outcome. Multiple propositions, can make many hypothesis and test them against reality/each other. Can understand how to reverse a task by either compensating for it or reversing it. Notion of readiness: a child can"t reach the formal stage until they have a solid understanding of concrete operations. Ex: no algebra is possible without solid grasp of basic logical mathematics. Formal operations is most susceptible to education type and influence. Piaget thought egocentrism increased as you matured. Egocentrism allows adolescents to reflect on their own thoughts and conceptualize the thoughts of others. They tend to think that others are preoccupied with what they are preoccupied. Adolescents construct and cater to an imaginary audience that is always. Since it is in their mind, it always watches what most bothers teen. Have a pimple or bad hair day, think everyone is noticing and focusing on it.
