Mental health disorder/psychological disorder: a pattern of behavioral and psychological symptoms that causes either personal distress and/or impairs their ability to function in the world. Panic disorder- people experience sudden onsets of extreme anxiety & have a panic attack; often end up in the emergency room because they think they"re having a heart attack. Can also lead to impairments stop going places because they"re afraid they might have one around people, can experience agoraphobia in addition to their panic disorder. Depression- always experience distress; have a lack of pleasure, a sad/unhappy mood; experience sleep disturbances; have a low self esteem. A mental health disorder because it includes distress and can lead to impairments (can"t get out of bed) Conduct disorder- experience impairment but not distress (usually); get in a lot of trouble repeatedly. Prevalence: a term often used by epidemiologists. Prevalence of adult mental health disorders found in the national comorbidity.
